INTRODUCTION :


Alappuzha,washed by the silvery waves of the Arabian Sea, occupies a significant place in the tourist map of Kerala. Interlocked with a large number of canals and bridges, this waterlocked district has immense untapped potential for backwater tourism.
Alappuzha, a centre of coir and carpet industries is an ideal place for backwater touring as well as for visits to the lovely churchfilled town of Kottayam, and the town of Aranmula where Onam water activities take place. Alappuzha is also good jumping off base for trips to Munnar and Periyar.


PHYSIOGRAPHY :
Alappuzha has several canals and lakes fit for boat cruise. Three prominent rivers in the southern grid to Kerala viz Achankovil, Pamba and Manimala empty into the lakes. The Vembanad Lake stretching from Alleppy to Cochin and Kayamkulam Lake which lies in both Alleppy and Quilon districts are used for inland water transport of cargo and passengers.

Air  : The nearest international airport is at Nedumbassery, Ernakulam, 86 km to North. Trivandrum International Airport is 159 kms to the south
Rail  : Alappuzha is linked by rail to cities like Cochin, Chennai, Bokaro and Mumbai.
Road  : Alappuzha is on the NH 47 highway and is connected to all important towns in South India.
Boat Services : Alappuzha is linked by boat service through the backwaters to Quilon, Changanassery, Kottayam, Cochin, Kumarakom, Kavalam and Chengannoor.
