Work on Kovalam-Kollam waterway begins

Access to Kovalam by the canal route connecting Kovalam and Kollam would soon be realized, when the recently started works on the TS Canal is complete. Work is already progressing at Veli as well as Kovalam, and the entire stretch of the canal up to Kollam, which is about 74 kms is expected to become completely navigable by the year 2010. The canal would maintain a width of 14 mtrs. Currently those making a livelihood by retting of coconut using the canal waters would be provided a separate space for continuing their work. Once complete the canal would be beautified by planting garden plants on either bank and also with sufficient illumination. It would be a delightful experience for those opting for a cruise on the canal connecting Kollam and Kovalam.
